A handover ceremony took place on Friday at the Ministry of Education between former Minister Akram Chehayeb, and newly-appointed Minister Tarek Majzoub.

“We have relentlessly fought in the cabinet and parliament to grant contractual workers their rights to social security, and at least a transportation allowance. We did not succeed, but we will continue to press for these right,” the former minister said as he was listing some of his ministry’s achievements.

“Private schools that did not meet the required teaching conditions have been closed despite political pressure,” he added.

“We formed an emergency committee after October 17 revolution and held more than one meeting. I hope that the work of this committee will be completed amid these difficult circumstance that the country is going through,” the former minister explained.

“We distributed funds to support refugee students in cooperation with UNICEF, and we moved from responding to crisis to developing a sustainable plan for the development of education in Lebanon,” he added.

For his part, Majzoub said, “I come from an environment of educators, and I was a university educator before I accessed the judicial field.”

“Education is the basis for building generations and the future; this slogan was repeated by my late father, Mohammed Majzoub,” the new minister added. He also declared that the ministry’s slogan would be “a flexible, quality education for all.”
