Citing two Israeli and US officials, Axios reports that the Israeli government has warned the Biden administration that if the International Criminal Court (ICC) issues arrest warrants against Israeli leaders, it will initiate a response against the Palestinian Authority that will lead to its collapse.
Reports have emerged over recent days in Israeli media that the ICC is preparing to issue arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, the military’s chief of staff Herzi Halevi and Defense Minister Yoav Gallant.
Netanyahu has said that if the arrest warrants were issued, it would be “a scandal on a historic scale”.
Axios reports that one possible action taken could be bankrupting the PA, which governs the occupied West Bank, by freezing the transfer of tax revenues.
Israel collects tax on behalf of the Palestinians and makes monthly transfers to the PA under the Oslo Accords in 1994.
