Actress Alyssa Milano called President Trump a "racist piece of shit" for calling the coronavirus the "Chinese virus."
Trump has brushed aside criticism in recent days, insisting on saying "Chinese virus" in public remarks and tweets. He said during the White House coronavirus task force news briefing on Wednesday that it's not "racist" to say "Chinese virus" because it is believed to have originated in Wuhan, China.
Milano, 46, pushed back on the president's preferred name in a tweet Wednesday. "Stop calling it the 'Chinese Virus,' you racist piece of sh*t," she said.
The actress is best known as a 1980s and '90s starlet, who took the spotlight in shows such as Who's the Boss? and Melrose Place. In recent years, she has become a vocal political activist and was especially vocal as a #MeToo advocate during Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh's confirmation hearings.
She attended the hearings in support of Christine Blasey Ford, who accused the Supreme Court justice of sexually assaulting her while he was in high school.
"I thought it was important to stand in solidarity with Dr. Ford and all women and men who have been victims of crazy abuses of power," Milano said during the hearings. "And I felt blessed to be able to do that and to be there, no matter how stoic I had to be and sort of prevent myself from, you know, rolling my eyes. I just had to sit there and be stoic, and that was difficult. It was definitely an exercise in how to constrain and restrain yourself."
Kavanaugh denied the sexual misconduct allegations he faced and was confirmed by the Senate.
