Caretaker Foreign Minister Gebran Bassil said on Tuesday that stability in Syria and the sustainability of the secular and non-religious state were in Lebanon's interest.
In a political dialogue at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Minister Bassil pointed out that if, during the war, "lebanonization" meant division, it was now "synonymous with the export of the Lebanese model of living together and plurality."
"Our model is perhaps not the best, but it has resisted the exemplars of terrorism and unilateralism, Daesh and Israel," he corroborated.
"We realize that the management of plurality and the realization of consensual democracy are not easy in a country with 18 religious communities (...), but we can achieve stability through agreement," he said.
"It is quite natural that each confession seeks to safeguard its prerogatives," he added.
Bassil concluded by stating that "Christians in Lebanon enjoy an important political, social and economic presence within the framework of partnership and living together with Muslims."
