Central Bank Governor Riad Salameh affirmed that "the Central Bank remains the last solid pillar of the country."
In an interview with "Le Figaro", Salameh stressed that he did not "embezzle money at the expense of the Central Bank, neither directly nor indirectly," adding: "I explained on April 8, 2020, the assets of my fortune by showing documents that prove that I have 23 million dollars, in year 1993, before I assumed the governorship of the Central Bank."
In response to a question about the accusations of illicit enrichment, Salameh clarified that "I did not have any illegitimate money or embezzled funds on the account of the Central Fund, neither directly nor indirectly," asserting that "I have previously declared all my assets, including those abroad, as I do not have any fake name."
