7/8/2021 2:09:15 PM

President Michel Aoun told the United Nations Special Coordinator in Lebanon, Joanna Wronecka, that “Lebanon, which is committed to implementing Resolution 1701 in all its aspects, wants the extension of the international forces operating in the south (UNIFIL) without modification in the mission and numbers, given the role it has played with the Lebanese army in maintaining stability in the region since 2006”.

President Aoun considered that the permanent coordination between UNIFIL and the Lebanese army is a guarantee to avoid any problems or accidents with the people, expressing his hope to resume indirect negotiations to demarcate the southern maritime borders without preconditions for the interest of the concerned parties.

The President also commended the efforts made by the United Nations organizations in Lebanon in various fields.

For her part, Wronecka informed President Aoun that the Security Council will meet on July 22 to discuss the periodic report on Resolution 1701, and it will address the situation in Lebanon in general and in the south in particular, in addition to political, economic and social developments.
