President of the Republic, General Michel Aoun, met on Tuesday with the French Foreign Affairs Minister in charge of Foreign Trade and Economic Polarization, Frank Riester.
The President affirmed that “Lebanon follows up, with gratitude, the efforts made by French President, Emmanuel Macron, to help emerge from the current crisis. This confirms President Macron’s constant interest in Lebanon at various political, humanitarian and living levels”.
“The Lebanese appreciate the provided French assistance, while preserving President Macron’s initiatives in the conferences which have been held to support Lebanon, including the conference scheduled on the beginning of next month, which will be devoted to help the Lebanese people” President Aoun said.
In addition, President Aoun presented the current political situation, to Minister Riester, and the difficulties encountered in facing the formation of the new government. The President also stressed the need for a capable government, “Whose first task is to carry out necessary reforms and remove obstacles because it will be the basis of reviving the country in various fields, in addition to revealing the facts which led to the current crisis and identifying responsibilities”.
Moreover, the President considered that forensic audit in Central Bank accounts is an essential station in the path of reforms, especially since this audit is one of the first demands of the International Monetary Fund, and the French Initiative included this matter as the first item. “This initiative, which was announced by President Macron, on the 1st of September in the Pine Palace, has all our support” President Aoun added.
Finally, President Aoun conveyed his greetings to his French counterpart, and thanked him for his constant interest in Lebanon and the Lebanesepeople.
