The Union of Bakeries Syndicates warned, in an issued statement today, against a bread shortage crisis during the upcoming week due to the loss of diesel fuel, as some bakeries will have to stop after running out of their reserves of this substance.
"What to do and how will bakeries secure bread supply for citizens?" questioned the statement, adding that "the loaf of bread is a red line" and stressing that "bakeries are not to be held responsible for this crisis."
The Union, thus, urged all officials, especially the Oil Directorate, to avoid this crisis by securing the necessary supply of diesel to bakeries before Monday, since many are about to run out of their reserves and will be forced to cease production next week if no supply is secured.
"The Union received calls from a number of bakery owners who complained about the black market prices. Therefore, the Union calls on all bakeries not to buy diesel fuel at the black market price, in order to discourage this market in light of the pressing conditions that the country is going through," the statement concluded.
