Prime Minister Najib Mikati on Wednesday asserted that he was endeavoring to make sure that the cabinet resumed its sessions as soon as possible, so as to aptly manage the outstanding affairs of the country and the people.

“We are on the path of the rescue process,” Mikati said during his patronage of the launching ceremony of the "Updated Report on Lebanon’s Environmental Reality" at the invitation of Minister of Environment, Nasser Yassin. “We hope that time will no longer be wasted and Lebanon doesn’t become the victim of itself,” the PM added.

“Lebanon deserves every sacrifice, and the Lebanese are looking forward to the return of life - away from the dangers of bankruptcy and deterioration,” he said. “We are proud of Lebanon's international friendships, and we thank all the support and keenness to help Lebanon to rise and restore its role on the regional and global arenas, but first and foremost, effort is required of us, the Lebanese people. It is our duty to stop obstruction and to return to the cabinet table to accomplish what is required,” Mikati added.

“It is also necessary to clarify some matters that were evoked yesterday concerning the judiciary; in this context, I affirm that it is not true that we’ve interfered in the work of the judiciary or in any matter that requires a decision by the judiciary,” Mikati said.

The PM finally stressed the need to adopt the required laws dealing with judicial issues, including matters that involve banks. He stressed the paramount importance of taking into consideration the priority of preserving depositors’ rights whilst making sure not to strike the remaining economic and financial components that are keeping the country afloat.
