Mansouri denies misquoted remarks on depositors' losses

Lebanon's Acting Central Bank Governor Wassim Mansouri issued a statement in response to media reports and social media posts suggesting that he had stated depositors must accept losses on their bank deposits.

The statement clarified that these claims were entirely false and did not reflect the Governor's position or that of the Central Bank's board.

Mansouri emphasized that while he had presented a general vision on how to address the issue of depositors’ funds in several occasions, he had never, in any form, suggested that depositors should accept losses. He also stressed that such discussions, which are of great importance and sensitivity, should not be taken out of context.

The statement concluded by reaffirming that this narrative contradicts the principles upheld by the Acting Governor since he assumed his role.
