Watch: Protests and Clashes After Rejection of Candidacy

Romanian media reported that opposition protests took place in Bucharest following the Constitutional Court's decision to reject the nomination of Călin Georgescu for the presidential elections.

The politician submitted all the necessary documents to the Central Election Office to register as a candidate for the position. On the same day, the court received two complaints against this initiative, which were rejected. The court stated it would refer the decision to the Central Election Commission, which ultimately decided not to allow Georgescu to run, explaining its position by stating that the registration conditions were not met. Following this news, opposition supporters gathered to protest in front of the Election Commission building.

Some protesters demolished the fence set up by the gendarmerie, threw bottles, and clashed with security forces.

During the clashes, the protesters divided into several groups and dispersed across the city center. Some went to the street linking University Square to Unity Square and set fire in the middle of the road.
