In her first interview since the Biden administration left office, former Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen issues a scathing critique of Trump’s tariff policy.
The approach has been “the worst self-inflicted wound that I have ever seen an administration impose on a well-functioning economy”, she told CNN.
Yellen pointed to strong growth and job creation, low unemployment and down-trending inflation she said the Trump administration had inherited. She predicted the impact of Trump’s moves would soon be reflected in those metrics.
“We had a very well-functioning economy, and President Trump has taken a wrecking ball to it,” she said.
