Several American media outlets reported the death of multiple people in a helicopter crash in the Hudson River in New York City.
A man named Erick Campoverde told ABC News: "I was walking nearby when the helicopter went down at a 45-degree angle. Water splashed violently... it was extremely frightening."
Another eyewitness told ABC: "It sounded like a sonic boom," adding that he saw "the helicopter split in two, with the main rotor separating."
A different witness told WABC: "One of its rotors broke apart."
The helicopter was found overturned in the water, which was at 50 degrees Fahrenheit (10 degrees Celsius), when rescue teams arrived at the scene, which was closer to the New Jersey side of the Hudson River, according to reports.
A video circulating on social media allegedly captured the moment the helicopter went down, along with footage from the crash site showing the ongoing rescue operations.
