US President Donald Trump sparked widespread reaction on social media after a video circulated showing him in an interview responding to a direct question about whether he trusts Russian President Vladimir Putin.
During an interview with ABC, the host asked Trump: “Do you think Vladimir Putin wants peace?” to which Trump replied, “I think he does, yes.” The interviewer followed up: “Still? Even after all those missiles recently launched on the Ukrainian capital, Kyiv?” Trump responded, “It was Putin’s dream to take over all of Ukraine, and I believe that because of me, he won’t do that.”
The host interrupted again: “Do you trust him (Putin)?” Trump replied: “I don’t trust you. I don’t trust many people. I don’t trust you... Look, you showed up in a suit, Barry, so happy to be doing this interview, and then you hit me with fake questions, and tell me a man with MS-13 tattoos on his hands has none. That’s dishonest.”
He added: “You (the host) are not honest… I don’t trust many people, but I believe he (Putin) respects me. And I believe that because of me, he wouldn’t go all the way. But it was his decision — his intention — to take over all of Ukraine. This is a war that should never have happened.”
