Watch: Fires Devour Forests in Libya

Wide-scale fires have broken out in several areas of the Green Mountain (Jabal al-Akhdar), where flames have consumed vast stretches of forests and farmland in the areas of Al-Awailiyah, Wadi Al-Kouf, Massa, Radamah, and the Buqarawah forest, east of the city of Al Marj in Libya.
The region has experienced a significant rise in temperatures, coinciding with dry southern winds (known locally as "Qibli"), which contributed to the rapid spread of the flames and made containment efforts more difficult. Footage circulated on social media showed thick columns of smoke and flames devouring trees, while civil defense teams appeared unable to fully control the fire at the time this report was prepared.
In a statement, the Space Science Foundation warned that southern winds are expected to intensify in the coming hours, potentially exceeding speeds of 80 km/h, which raises the risk of the fires spreading further and threatening nearby residential areas.
The foundation urged all Libyans living near mountainous and forested areas to exercise maximum caution and immediately evacuate fire-affected zones, noting that the region is facing exceptional weather conditions that increase the severity of the situation.
