Aoun Slams Israeli Escalation in the South, Calls for International Action

President of the Republic Joseph Aoun condemned the Israeli military escalation targeting the Nabatieh and Iqlim al-Tuffah regions and endangering civilians, denouncing what he described as “Israel’s continued violation of Lebanon’s sovereignty and the November ceasefire agreement.”
“Israel persists in ignoring regional and international calls to halt violence and de-escalation efforts,” Aoun said in a statement, stressing that such actions necessitate “a decisive response from the international community to put an end to these aggressions, which undermine the ongoing efforts to stabilize Lebanon and the wider region.”
On the other hand, President Aoun received at Baabda Palace, the Papal Nuncio to Lebanon, Monsignor Paolo Borgia, accompanied by Counselor Monsignor Giovanni Becchiari. Discussions during the meeting reportedly touched on the Lebanese relations with the Holy See, in light of the President's recent visit to the Vatican, where he met with Pope Leo XIV and the Secretary of State, Cardinal Pietro Parolin.
