A volcano in eastern Indonesia spewed massive ash columns reaching 18 kilometers into the sky, authorities reported, just weeks after its previous eruption, prompting the cancellation of several flights to and from Bali.
The eruption came from Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki, a twin-peaked volcano standing at 1,584 meters on the tourist island of Flores, according to a statement from the country’s volcanology agency. No damage or injuries have been reported so far.
Dozens of flights to and from Bali were canceled due to the eruption. Volcanic ash also fell on several towns surrounding the volcano, forcing authorities to evacuate at least one village. As of Monday, no additional flight cancellations had been reported.
