A stampede occurred at the Mansa Devi Temple, located atop a hill in the city of Haridwar, India, where hundreds of visitors had gathered. The incident left at least six people dead and 28 others injured, according to police.
Brahmendra Singh Dobal, the chief police inspector in Haridwar, told the Press Trust of India that rumors of an electric current near the base of the temple stairs triggered panic among the crowd, leading to the deadly stampede.
He added that 34 people were taken to the hospital, six of whom were declared dead.
