President Joseph Aoun met US Central Command chief

President of the Republic Joseph Aoun received this afternoon at Baabda Palace, the US Central Command Chief, General Michael E. Kurilla, with an accompanying delegation from the command, in the presence of US Ambassador to Lebanon Lisa Johnson.
At the beginning of the meeting, General Kurilla congratulated President Aoun on Lebanon’s Army Day. The discussion touched on the existing cooperation between the Lebanese and US armies and ways to develop it in all areas.
The discussion also addressed the situation in south Lebanon, whereby General Kurilla praised the Lebanese army's achievements thus far after its deployment in most of the southern towns and villages, pending the completion of its deployment after the withdrawal of Israeli enemy forces from the Lebanese territories they occupy.
The discussion also touched on President Aoun's firm positions regarding arms’ monopoly and the domestic and international reactions in this regard. The President stressed "the need to strengthen American support for the Lebanese army, which alone expresses the will of the Lebanese people to see their country free, sovereign, and independent."
The discussion also addressed the situation in Syria and the development of relations between the two neighboring countries.
On the other hand, President Aoun received at Baabda palace, former Minister of Justice Henri Khoury and Judge Joelle Fawaz, head of the Legislation and Consultations Authority at the Ministry of Justice.
