Minister of Justice Adel Nassar underscored the critical importance of placing all weapons under the exclusive authority of the Lebanese state, asserting that the proliferation of arms has repeatedly drawn Lebanon into destructive conflicts.
“The issue of arms control is not solely linked to foreign factors; it is fundamentally tied to the process of state-building in Lebanon, which requires exclusive control over force to be complete,” Nassar stated.
The Justice Minister argued that since 2000, weapons outside state control have failed to protect Lebanon, instead dragging the country into wars and causing devastating consequences, without achieving the so-called “balance of terror.”
Nassar stressed that Hezbollah must recognize that its arsenal stands in direct contradiction to the principles of state-building. “No party should remain an obstacle to the establishment of a functioning state,” Nassar concluded.
