Salam: Boosted International Support Strengthens Army and Security

Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam received US Senator Markwayne Mullin, a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, along with his accompanying congressional delegation, who are visiting Lebanon as part of a regional tour.
The delegation was briefed by Prime Minister Salam on the government’s decisions regarding institutional and financial reforms and the centralization of weapons under state control. Salam emphasized that increasing international support for the Lebanese Army, in terms of funding and equipment, strengthens security and stability. He also highlighted the importance of renewing UNIFIL’s mandate, given its pivotal role in maintaining stability and assisting the army in extending state authority across southern Lebanon.
The Prime Minister reiterated the necessity for the US to fulfill its responsibility by pressuring Israel to cease attacks, withdraw from the five positions in the south, and release prisoners.
Discussions also covered bilateral relations and economic cooperation between Lebanon and the United States, as well as regional developments, with Salam stressing the importance of Syria’s unity and stability.
