Ambassador Ramez Dimashkieh, head of the Lebanese–Palestinian Dialogue Committee, issued the following statement:
The first phase of handing over weapons from inside the Palestinian camps will begin today, starting with Burj al-Barajneh camp in Beirut, where an initial batch of arms will be delivered and placed under the custody of the Lebanese Army. This step marks the launch of the process, to be followed by additional handovers in the coming weeks at Burj al-Barajneh and other camps.
This handover comes in implementation of the decisions of the Lebanese–Palestinian summit held on May 21, 2025, between Presidents Joseph Aoun and Mahmoud Abbas, which affirmed Lebanon’s sovereignty over all its territory, the extension of state authority, and the principle of exclusive control of arms. It also follows the resolutions of the joint meeting of the Lebanese–Palestinian Dialogue Committee on May 23, 2025, chaired by Prime Minister Nawaf Salam, with the participation of Lebanese and Palestinian representatives, where a clear implementation mechanism and timetable were agreed upon to address the issue of Palestinian weapons.
