Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Prince Faisal bin Farhan said on Monday that the Palestinian people are facing “the most horrific forms of oppression and genocide” due to Israel’s ongoing assault, calling it an unprecedented violation of international law.

Speaking at the 21st extraordinary session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), held at the organization’s headquarters in Jeddah, Prince Faisal stressed that “international silence regarding these crimes exacerbates the tragedy and undermines prospects for peace and security in the region and the world.”

The Saudi foreign minister said the international community must act to stop “the crimes of the occupation” and prevent Israel from pursuing its aggressive policies, “including attempts to occupy Gaza City and impose settlement projects.”

He warned that these ongoing violations “obstruct any path to peace and ignite further unrest at both the regional and international levels.”

Two-state solution

Prince Faisal reaffirmed Saudi Arabia’s steadfast position on the Palestinian cause, underscoring “full support for the Palestinians’ right to establish their independent state on the June 4, 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.”

He said advancing the two-state solution remains “the just and only option to achieve stability.”

He also warned that Israel’s continued crimes against civilians and “impunity” undermine the foundations of international peace and security.

He urged countries still hesitant to condemn these practices to reconsider their positions, adding that “the number of states that have decided to recognize the State of Palestine is steadily increasing, reflecting growing international conviction in the justice of the cause.”

Humanitarian aid and support

Prince Faisal called for ensuring the urgent delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza without obstacles, and for supporting the Palestinian Authority “in its reform path and consolidating its role as the legitimate representative of the Palestinian people.”
