Former Minister Charged with Bribery and Illicit Enrichment

8/27/2025 10:27:00 AM

The National News Agency reported that Judge Jamal Al-Hajjar, Public Prosecutor for Judicial Investigations, has referred preliminary investigation files concerning former Industry Minister George Boujikian to Judge Sami Sader, Appeals Public Prosecutor in Mount Lebanon.

Following Al-Hajjar’s referral, Sader charged Boujikian with bribery and illicit enrichment, after his parliamentary immunity was lifted.

Boujikian is suspected of extorting and threatening factory owners, demanding large sums in exchange for work permits.

Al-Hajjar had previously delayed action against Boujikian, who is currently in Canada, based on his lawyer’s assurances that his client was willing to return to Lebanon and face the judiciary. However, continued stalling led to formal charges and the initiation of legal proceedings.
