Salam visits Grand Imam of Al-Azhar in Cairo, invites him to visit Lebanon

Prime Minister Nawaf Salam, and his accompanying delegation, visited Egypt's Grand Imam of al-Azhar Sheikh Ahmed Mohamed al-Tayeb, at the headquarters of the Al-Azhar in Cairo, Premier Salam’s media office said.
During the meeting, Premier Salam briefed the Grand Imam on the latest developments in Lebanon, stressing that Lebanon, "with its diverse Islamic and Christian composition, needs Al-Azhar's support in fostering a spirit of human brotherhood and tolerance, and in confronting the rhetoric of discord and fanaticism."
In this context, Premier Salam invited the Grand Imam to visit Lebanon before the end of the year, considering that "his presence in Beirut constitutes a unifying message to all Lebanese and reflects Al-Azhar's historic role in promoting a culture of dialogue and coexistence."
For his part, the Grand Imam welcomed the invitation and suggested that his upcoming visit to Lebanon coincide with an Islamic-Islamic conference in Beirut to consecrate the principles of the Human Fraternity and Citizenship Documents, which affirm the culture of tolerance, peace, and coexistence.
Sheikh al-Tayeb also renewed Al-Azhar's commitment to carrying out its global role in confronting extremism and working to spread a culture of moderation.
