Salam broaches situation with Ambassadors of France, Egypt

Prime Minister Nawaf Salam afternoon received at the Grand Serail, French Ambassador to Lebanon Hervé Magro.

Discussions reportedly focused on the upcoming visit of French Presidential Envoy Jean-Yves Le Drian to Lebanon this month, within the framework of preparations for the two conferences, one on Lebanon's reconstruction and economic recovery and the other in support of the Lebanese Army.

The discussion also touched on the recent Security Council resolution to extend the mandate of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) and how to approach the next phase.

The progress made in the handover of Palestinian weapons and their transfer to the Lebanese Army was also discussed, with President Salam stressing the need to secure French and European support to improve the humanitarian and social conditions of Palestinian refugees in the camps.

Separately, Premier Salam received the Ambassador of the Arab Republic of Egypt to Lebanon, Alaa Moussa, accompanied by the Egyptian Defense Attaché, Brigadier General Amr Abdel Karim.

The discussion touched on the outcomes of Premier Salam's recent official visit to Egypt, with Ambassador Moussa considering this visit "an important milestone in the course of the bilateral relations."

Ambassador Moussa stressed "Egypt's continued support for Lebanon in various fields, particularly with regard to supporting the Lebanese Army and strengthening its capabilities."

The Egyptian Amabssador also extended an invitation to Premier Salam to attend the opening ceremony of the Egyptian Museum next November.
