A person died after being attacked by a shark off a popular beach in Sydney, Australia, prompting police to cordon off the area and close several other nearby beaches.
Police reported that the incident occurred after 10 am local time, leading to the closure of several beaches in the area. The victim was pulled from the water and taken to the shore but had suffered severe injuries that caused death at the scene. Authorities have not yet revealed the identity of the man, nor have they identified the type of shark involved in the attack.
This marks the first shark-related fatality in Australia in about three and a half years. Two pieces of a surfboard believed to belong to the victim were recovered and sent for examination as part of the ongoing investigation.
