Russian news agency Novosti reported, citing the Russian Consulate General, that two Russian tourists were detained in Istanbul at the end of August after exchanging kisses in the Camlica Mosque, and were later released.
The incident occurred on August 26 in the Camlica Mosque in the Uskudar district on the Asian side of Istanbul. During questioning, the Russian man apologized, stating that he was unaware of the ban on such actions in the mosque, according to informed sources.
Local media, which published a video of the incident, reported that the Russian man and his girlfriend were taking photos inside the mosque and then exchanged kisses.
