Netanyahu to testify in corruption trial after hearing canceled over Jerusalem

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is expected to testify in his criminal trial today in Tel Aviv District Court, according to a report from The Times of Israel, after his hearing scheduled for Monday was canceled due to the attack in Jerusalem.
The hearing will be a closed-door session since it involves Hollywood producer Arnon Milchan’s efforts to secure a long-term US visa, allegedly with the help of Netanyahu.
Milchan, an Israeli producer of Hollywood films in June 2023 took the stand in Netanyahu’s corruption trial, describing how he routinely delivered tens of thousands of dollars worth of champagne, cigars and other gifts requested by the Israeli prime minister, according to a report from the UK based news organization The Guardian, citing the indictment.
Milchan, who then appeared by video-conference from the UK city of Brighton near where he is based, is a key witness whose testimony is essential for prosecutors who are trying to prove that Netanyahu committed fraud and breach of trust in one of three cases brought against him.
Netanyahu was indicted in 2019 on charges of bribery, fraud and breach of trust, all of which he denies. Hearings in his trial have been postponed a few times at Netanyahu’s requests citing security concerns due to Israel’s ongoing war in Gaza.
