Rescue teams, supported by the army, rushed to evacuate thousands of residents from flood-affected villages near Jalalpur Pirwala in eastern Pakistan.
Authorities said rescue operations began Tuesday night and are still ongoing. Relief Commissioner Nabeel Javed reported that around 142,000 people in the area have been affected by the floods, noting that many displaced residents have taken refuge in relatives’ homes, while others have spent sleepless nights on embankments or in relief camps after their homes were submerged.
Meanwhile, Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif declared an agricultural and climate emergency after severe floods swept through several provinces, causing extensive damage to infrastructure and agricultural areas.
