Earthquake hits Ankara

The Mediterranean region and Turkey’s capital, Ankara, experienced tremors exceeding magnitude 4 on the Richter scale, according to Russia Today.

At 08:24 local Turkish time, a 4.1-magnitude earthquake struck the Çalçık area in Ankara, with a depth of 11.08 kilometers beneath the surface. The tremor was felt in the regions of Eskişehir, Çankırı, Kırşehir, and Kırıkkale.

Meanwhile, the Euro-Mediterranean Seismological Centre reported a “new earthquake in the Mediterranean Sea this morning, registering a magnitude of 4.6 on the Richter scale.”

According to the center’s official data, the quake occurred at a depth of 10 kilometers under the sea, at a distance of 211 kilometers east of Malta’s capital, Valletta, and 213 kilometers east-northeast of the Maltese city of Qormi.
