The Israeli newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth reported, according to Israeli security officials, that special devices were planted in Nasrallah’s secret hideout.
The operation took place while Israeli planes were striking Hezbollah positions in Beirut’s southern suburbs. A group of agents entered Haret Hreik carrying carefully concealed devices. They knew that if Hezbollah caught them, they would almost certainly be killed, and if the devices were discovered, it would be a major setback for Israeli security.
According to the report, Mossad operatives moved carefully through narrow alleys, hoping their operations director had coordinated with the Israeli army to prevent airstrikes in the area. Their target was a multi-story residential building that concealed one of Hezbollah’s most important secret strongholds, the main command center. Nasrallah was expected to meet there with the commander of Iran’s Quds Force in Lebanon and Hezbollah’s Southern Front leader, Ali Karaki.
Only a small number of Hezbollah security personnel and leaders knew about the hideout. The Mossad team placed the devices in specific, pre-determined locations inside the building. They completed the mission successfully and left without being detected.
