UN chief, Syrian president discuss political transition in Syria

United Nations Secretary-General met with H.E. Mr. Ahmad Al-Sharaa, President of the Syrian Arab Republic, to discuss the political transition in Syria and broader regional issues.
The Secretary-General acknowledged key steps taken toward political transition in Syria, stressing the need for inclusive dialogue and broad-based participation. He underscored the importance of safeguarding Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, while also voicing concern over recent violations of the 1974 Disengagement Agreement.
The two leaders explored ways to further strengthen cooperation between the United Nations and Syria, and exchanged views on current developments across the Middle East.
