Raggi discusses bilateral relations, regional developments with counterparts at UNGA 80

Foreign Minister Youssef Raggi held a series of high-level meetings on the sidelines of the 80th United Nations General Assembly in New York, engaging with counterparts from Armenia, Ireland, and Cyprus. These discussions focused on strengthening bilateral ties, regional developments, and Lebanon’s political and security landscape.
During his meeting with Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mizoyan, Raggi lauded the significant role played by the Lebanese Armenian community in deepening the historical and cultural bonds between Lebanon and Armenia. The two officials also delved into the current political situations in both countries, as well as the broader regional context.
The Lebanese Foreign Minister also met with Irish Foreign Minister Simon Harris, where the conversation centered around international political developments and the situation in Lebanon.
Raggi expressed his gratitude for Ireland's unwavering support for Lebanon, particularly through its contributions to the UNIFIL peacekeeping mission. He emphasized the critical importance of avoiding any security vacuum following UNIFIL’s scheduled withdrawal in the coming year.
Raggi also commended the Lebanese Army's role in maintaining state authority in the southern regions and across Lebanon as a whole.
In response, Minister Harris reiterated Ireland's continued commitment to supporting the Lebanese Army and reinforcing Lebanon's sovereignty and security.
Additionally, Raggi held talks with Cypriot Foreign Minister, Constantinos Kombos, who extended an invitation for the Lebanese minister to visit Cyprus for in-depth discussions on a range of bilateral issues of mutual interest.
The meetings underscored Lebanon’s ongoing diplomatic engagement with its international partners, particularly concerning regional stability, security, and the continued role of the Lebanese Armed Forces in safeguarding national sovereignty.
