Defense Ministry reaffirms army’s role as guardian of national unity

The office of Defense Minister Michel Menassa issued a statement underscoring that the Lebanese Army’s foremost national duty remains the prevention of strife, the deterrence of threats to civil peace, and the consolidation of national unity.
The statement stressed that the army has shed “blood, lives, and limbs in defense of the land, the flag, dignity, and the honor of belonging to this nation,” without expecting gratitude or accolades.
It further noted that the pride and valor of Lebanon’s soldiers and officers “reject the denial of their sacrifices and resent unjust criticism, particularly attempts to shift the burdens of the street onto the guardians of legitimacy while evading greater responsibilities.”
To conclude, the statement affirmed that “the Lebanese Army has a nation to defend, a president to safeguard it, a commander to lead it, and a people who love it and see in it the remaining hope after God and Lebanon.”
