On Saturday evening, Tel Aviv witnessed a dangerous escalation in the protests, after far-right activists attacked demonstrators opposing Benjamin Netanyahu’s government, in a scene reflecting the growing tensions on the Israeli street.
A video circulating on social media shows far-right activists assaulting anti-Netanyahu protesters, opening car doors and threatening passengers, even banging violently on vehicles.
In response, right-wing activists shared other clips showing one driver deliberately running into several of them after they blocked his way, as part of what they called the “Obstruct the Attackers” campaign.
These recent incidents are not isolated; last July, two demonstrators were attacked during a sit-in by the families of prisoners on Kaplan Street, including the assault of a man in his seventies and an attempted deliberate car-ramming.
Meanwhile, prisoner families have escalated their protests against Netanyahu following his return from Washington, accusing him of sabotaging prisoner exchange deals and prolonging their suffering.
