Salam Speaks Out on Elections and Expat Voting Rights

Prime Minister Nawaf Salam emphasized the necessity of firmly committing to holding the elections on their scheduled date, without any delay or obstruction, while ensuring the right of all Lebanese, both residents and those living abroad, to vote fairly and transparently within their constituencies.
In a statement delivered on his behalf by Minister of Social Affairs Hanine El-Sayed during a UN Women seminar, Salam said: “Amid current discussions surrounding the electoral reform file, I find it necessary to reaffirm the government’s and my personal principles in this regard. This includes ensuring safe and transparent electoral conditions that allow Lebanese to participate freely, particularly our communities in the South, where those who have lost their homes and villages must not be deprived of their right to vote. It also includes establishing a quota of no less than 30 percent for each gender on candidate lists, guaranteeing fairer representation for all segments of society, and encouraging and supporting women to engage in all levels of the electoral process: supervision, organization, voting, and candidacy.”
