Aoun confirms regional compromise and maritime negotiations with Israel

President of the Republic Joseph Aoun affirmed that "Lebanon is not in danger and all economic indicators are positive." President Aoun considered that "the general atmosphere in the region is one of compromise," stressing "the need to reach a time when Israel commits to halting military operations against Lebanon so that the negotiation process can begin, because this process we witness in the region must not be opposed. Lebanon has previously negotiated with Israel under the auspices of both the United States and the United Nations, which resulted in an agreement to demarcate the maritime borders."
President Aoun stressed that "according attention to the south and reforms are a priority, and that reconstruction is the state's duty toward its people. The people of the south have rights that the state is working to secure." He denied that the aid approved by the US Congress was "linked to the issue of disarmament."
President Aoun's stances came during his meeting this morning at Baabda Palace with the Association of Economic Journalists, headed by Sabine Oueiss.
In response to a question about the current situation in the region and its repercussions on the Lebanese arena, President Aoun said: "The prevailing situation in the region now and the path it is taking demonstrates the rightness of our decisions and approaches. Things are moving towards negotiation to establish peace and stability, and they are yielding results. Therefore, we always say that solutions can be reached through dialogue and negotiation. We cannot be outside the existing path in the region, which is the path of "resolving crisis," and we must be part of it, as we can no longer bear more war, destruction, killing, and displacement."
