Former French President Nicolas Sarkozy arrived at La Santé prison in Paris to begin a five-year sentence after being convicted in the case of financing his 2007 presidential campaign with Libyan funds.

Before being transferred to prison, a number of his supporters gathered outside his home in the 16th arrondissement of Paris. Among the roughly 100 people present were his former advisor Henri Guaino and his entire family.

Sarkozy left his home down a narrow alley, accompanied by his wife Carla Bruni, who greeted the crowd, before getting into a car that took him to the prison, escorted by a motorcycle police convoy and several journalists.

On the way to La Santé, the former president posted a message on X addressing the French people, asserting that he was a “victim of a judicial scandal,” referring to what he considered an injustice against him.

Shortly afterward, Sarkozy arrived at the prison, where he will be transferred to the VIP wing and assigned a private cell within a set of 18 identical cells, each measuring 9 square meters, located in a separate wing from the other inmates.
