Aoun leads a series of meetings

President of the Republic Joseph Aoun welcomed former Minister Michel Pharaon, who invited him to take part in a consultative meeting aimed at preparing for a forthcoming conference tied to the release of the second volume of “The Neutrality of Lebanon and the Lebanese: Closing the Arena and the Arenas.”

The event, Pharaon explained, will be organized in collaboration with Austria, and will feature Lebanese experts and academics discussing Lebanon’s neutrality in policy, culture, memory, and education.

Later, MP Walid Baarini met with President Aoun, voicing support for the President’s stance on negotiations and the exclusive possession of arms by the state, noting that his prudent handling of both issues “spares Lebanon any internal confrontation.”

President Aoun also met at Baabda Palace with the UN Secretary-General's Special Envoy for Road Safety, Jean Todt, accompanied by the World Food Programme (WFP) Lebanon Director, Matthew Hollingworth, and Chtaura Municipality Mayor and Head of Lebanese Road Safety Observatory at Justicia.

Todt briefed President Aoun on the campaigns he is supervising to achieve traffic safety in countries across the world and support the process of reducing the number of fatalities and injuries resulting from traffic accidents, providing a series of statistics on traffic accidents in a number of countries around the world, which show a significant increase in the number of deaths and injuries.

The UN official underlined the need to organize awareness campaigns in which prominent influential figures in society participate, whether official, cultural, artistic, or sports, “to deliver awareness messages in a good and useful manner, especially regarding the necessity of wearing a helmet for cyclists, in addition to monitoring speed and not drinking alcohol or talking on a cell phone while driving, as all of these actions cause fatal traffic accidents.”

Todt also pointed out that "the United Nations agencies are ready to participate in traffic safety awareness programmes."

President Aoun commended Todt’s "efforts to promote a culture of traffic safety," welcoming "any assistance provided by the United Nations in this regard.” Aoun also stressed that "instructions have been issued to security agencies to strictly enforce traffic laws and preserve the safety of citizens."

President Aoun also received President of Lebanese Otolaryngology Head and Neck Society, Dr. Raed Rtail, accompanied by a delegation including Drs. Micheline Maamari, Mustafa Sweidan, Rami Abbadi, Maya Zayour, Nada Sweidan and Paul Audeh, who raised with the President issues related to the cosmetic profession sector in thhe country.

Aoun later received the President of the Lebanese American University (LAU), Dr. Chaouki Abdallah, accompanied by Dr. Zeina Khoury, Sami Rizk, Saad El Zein, and Christian Oussi. The discussion reportedly touched on the university's situation.

During the meeting, Dr. Abdullah extended an invitation to the President of the Republic to attend the celebration to be held on December 9th to mark the centenary of the establishment of the Lebanese American University Medical Center-Rizk Hospital in Achrafieh.

The discussion reportedly touched on the state of university education in Lebanon, the health sector in general, and the achievements of the University Medical Center - Rizk Hospital in the health and medical domains.
