After wild animals were reported dead, the Ministry takes action

The Ministry of Agriculture – Directorate of Animal Wealth issued the following statement:
“Referring to what has been circulated via media and social media regarding reports of wild animal deaths, particularly jackals, in some areas of Lebanon, the Directorate of Animal Wealth at the Ministry of Agriculture announces the following:
1- The Ministry of Agriculture is closely monitoring the situation and has tasked a team of veterinarians to conduct field inspections and epidemiological investigations in the affected areas, as well as to collect necessary samples for laboratory testing at accredited animal health laboratories to accurately determine the causes of death.
2- All appropriate measures will be taken according to the nature of the disease revealed by the laboratory results, to ensure the safety of citizens, pets, wildlife, and Lebanon’s biodiversity.
3- The Ministry urges citizens not to panic or approach sick animals or attempt to handle them, as this may endanger them or worsen the animals’ condition. It also calls for avoiding the spread of unreliable news. Citizens are encouraged to immediately report any cases of animal deaths or abnormal symptoms in wild or domestic animals to the nearest agricultural center in their area, or directly to the Directorate of Animal Wealth – Animal Health Division at the Ministry of Agriculture.
4- The Ministry reiterates the importance of adhering to the national rabies control plan and implementing the TNVR mechanism (Trap, Neuter, Vaccinate, Release) to reduce the spread of stray dogs and related diseases.
The Ministry of Agriculture extends its thanks to all concerned parties and collaborators for reporting and monitoring efforts, in commitment to public safety and the protection of wildlife in Lebanon.”
