Following criticism directed at the Lebanese Army over its commander’s decision to have personnel return to duty on Fridays, informed sources told MTV’s website that the move is “an internal matter within the military institution.” The sources added that instead of criticism, “it would be more constructive to call on the Lebanese state to improve soldiers’ salaries.”
They explained that “the army knows best what serves its interests, and the decision applies only to a limited number of personnel serving in fixed posts.”
It is worth noting that during the economic crisis and the COVID-19 pandemic, army leadership had decided to give some personnel stationed at the Ministry of Defense and other fixed positions Fridays off, while operational units continued to follow a different service schedule.
