Military chopper headed to typhoon-hit areas in the Philippines crashes

A military helicopter crashed in Loreto, Agusan del Sur on Tuesday, the Eastern Mindanao Command (EastMinCom) confirmed.
It said the Super Huey aircraft was heading to areas affected by typhoon Tino to support disaster response when it crashed.
"Rescue and recovery operations are ongoing. The Command is working closely with the emergency response teams in the area," the EastMinCom said.
"EastMinCom appeals for the public's understanding, prayers, and cooperation as efforts to locate the crew continue. Further updates will be provided once additional information becomes available," it added.
The Philippine Air Force, in a separate statement, said the helicopter was part of a flight of four helicopters that departed from Davao to Butuan to conduct a Rapid Damage Assessment and Needs Analysis (RDANA) mission.
"Communication with the helicopter was lost, which immediately prompted the launch of a Search and Rescue (SAR) operation," it added.
PAF also said a thorough investigation is being conducted to determine the circumstances and cause of the accident.
Residents reported what appeared to be burned bodies at the crash site, but the military has yet to release additional details regarding the incident.
