Jaber, French envoy tackle banking reform and economic cooperation

Finance Minister Yassine Jaber held a meeting with Jacques de Lajugie, Economic Adviser and Special Envoy of the French President, in the presence of Regional Economic Department Head François Sporrer, Financial Attaché Kenza Ouzani, Director General of Finance Georges Maarawi, and several advisers and experts.

According to the ministry’s media office, the meeting came within the framework of ongoing Lebanese-French coordination on financial and economic reform programs. 

Discussions focused on options for restructuring Lebanon’s banking sector to protect depositors, restore confidence in the financial system, and strengthen transparency and regulatory compliance.

Talks also covered the political and financial situation and its impact on monetary policy, exchange rates, and fiscal stability. The French side stressed the need for technical alignment between the Central Bank and the IMF.

Minister Jaber emphasized accelerating digital transformation in ports and customs centers to improve efficiency, trade facilitation, and revenue collection. The meeting concluded with agreement on a roadmap for infrastructure investment, legislative proposals for banking reform, and continued technical dialogue on fiscal and monetary policy to bolster growth and stability.
