WHO chief urges countries to take in Gaza medical patients

Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus has provided more details on Italy’s evacuation of Gaza children needing medical treatment.
The World Health Organization (WHO) chief said 19 critically ill patients and 93 companions were evacuated to Italy yesterday for specialised care.
Tedros thanked Italian leaders including Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni “for their generosity and solidarity”.
“We urge more countries to receive patients from Gaza, as over 16,500 people still need urgent medical care that is not available in the Strip. We also call for opening of all evacuation routes, particularly to West Bank, including East Jerusalem,” he wrote on X.
