World Bank Executive Directors visit Lebanon, stress support for reforms and recovery

A delegation from the World Bank Group’s Board of Executive Directors visited Lebanon from November 5 to 9 to assess the country’s pressing development challenges and priorities, and to evaluate alignment with the Bank’s current and planned operations.
The delegation met with key Lebanese leaders including President Joseph Aoun, Speaker Nabih Berri, Prime Minister Nawaf Salam, Finance Minister Yassine Jaber, Central Bank Governor Karim Souaid, and several ministers. Meetings were also held with private sector representatives and ambassadors.
During a field visit to the Bekaa region, the delegation reviewed World Bank-supported projects in water, environment, agriculture, and energy along the Litani River Basin. They also toured conflict-affected areas in the South in the context of the recently approved Lebanon Emergency Assistance Program (LEAP) for reconstruction and recovery.
The delegation emphasized the importance of leveraging Lebanon’s human capital and natural resources, supporting economic reforms, strengthening governance systems, and enabling a resilient private sector to foster inclusive growth.
They reaffirmed the World Bank’s commitment to working with Lebanese stakeholders to unlock the country’s potential and support long-term prosperity.
