Will Public Administration Workers Consider Escalation?

11/13/2025 9:04:00 AM

The General Authority of Public Administration Employees issued the following warning statement:

In reference to the circulars issued by several public administrations requesting employees to adhere to official working hours based on Law No. 46/2017 dated August 21, 2017, the General Authority of Public Administration Employees warns against any attempt to reimpose full working hours until 3:30 p.m. under the pretext of Law 46/2017, also known as the salary scale law. The Authority reminds that this law cannot be applied selectively, as those who approved the working hours also approved fair salaries that no longer exist today.

On the principle of no work without pay, and given that public employees currently earn no more than 25 dollars per month while the current allowances are not part of the base salary and therefore cannot justify reinstating obligations that effectively fell away with the collapse of wages,

The Authority therefore warns that any circular or decision imposing full working hours without wage adjustment and without including the allowances as part of the base salary is invalid and unacceptable. It stresses that it will not stand idly by in the face of any attempt to fragment the law or to burden employees with the consequences of the economic collapse.

The Authority announces that it will take open-ended escalatory steps should the concerned authorities persist in imposing a fait accompli, calling on employees to show solidarity and readiness to act in defense of their rights and dignity.
