Lebanon Sees First Major Rainfall, Authorities Warn of Flooding

11/13/2025 10:50:00 AM

The Meteorological Department at the Directorate General of Civil Aviation expects tomorrow’s weather to be mostly cloudy, with a further drop in temperatures falling below seasonal averages. Dense fog is expected over the mountains, reducing visibility, along with heavy rain at times accompanied by thunderstorms and strong winds reaching up to 60 km/h, causing rough seas. Hail may fall in some areas, with a risk of flash floods on certain roads, especially in the north. Snow is expected at altitudes of around 2,400 meters overnight.

Starting Thursday afternoon, Lebanon and the eastern Mediterranean will be affected by a low-pressure system currently centered over the Black Sea, gradually approaching the region and bringing cold air masses. This will result in unstable and sometimes heavy rainfall, noticeable drops in temperature below seasonal norms, active winds, and thunderstorms. The system is expected to persist until early Sunday before gradually receding. Temperatures are forecast to rise again starting Tuesday.

Average temperatures for November: Beirut: 17–25°C; Tripoli: 14–23°C; Zahle: 8–20°C.

Detailed Forecast:

Thursday: Partly cloudy with mid- and high-level clouds and a drop in temperatures to near seasonal averages. Clouds will increase by noon with fog forming over the mountains. Scattered showers are expected throughout the day, intensifying in the evening, particularly in northern regions, and accompanied by lightning, thunder, and active winds. The formation of flash floods is possible overnight.

Friday: Generally cloudy with further drops in temperature below seasonal averages and dense fog over the mountains, reducing visibility. Heavy rain at times with thunderstorms and strong winds reaching around 60 km/h, causing rough seas. Hail may occur in some areas, and flash floods are possible on certain roads, especially in the north. Snow is expected at around 2,400 meters overnight.

Saturday: Cloudy with a slight rise in temperatures and fog over the mountains. Scattered showers, locally heavy at times with thunder and lightning, are expected, interspersed with some clear spells during the day. Snow may fall at elevations of 2,300 meters and above. Rain will subside by Saturday night into Sunday.

Sunday: Partly cloudy with little change in temperature and fog over the mountains. Light scattered showers in the morning, mainly in southern regions, with gradual improvement throughout the day.
