The Lebanese Army announced that it has processed 177 tunnels since the launch of the Homeland Shield Plan, which aims to enforce the exclusive control of weapons. The army also reported closing 11 crossings along the Litani River and seizing 566 rocket launchers.
During a media tour in the South Litani Sector, the sector commander said the army was unveiling the details of the plan’s implementation to the press for the first time.
“No evidence has been presented to prove that any weapons have entered the area south of the Litani, and we are seeing full cooperation from local residents,” he said.
He added that 10,000 soldiers are currently deployed south of the Litani despite various challenges, and that the army maintains 200 positions in the area, noting that 20 of them were destroyed by Israeli attacks.
The commander also reported multiple violations along the border, and revealed that the army has carried out 300,011 military missions in the sector.
Addressing the recent strikes on residential homes, he said: “The homes that were targeted are civilian. We were not tasked with inspecting them beforehand, but after the attacks we conducted our inspections and found no weapons.”
He added: “We are facing no obstacles in carrying out our missions. Residents are supporting the army and welcoming the state’s presence.”
The commander confirmed that the army has completed 80 percent of the ‘Shield of the Nation’ plan, stressing: “We are fully committed to completing all assigned tasks within the required timeframe.”
