Geagea to Berri: You Do Not Get to Decide on Diaspora Voting

11/28/2025 1:44:00 PM

Leader the Lebanese Forces Party Samir Geagea issued the following Statement:

President Berri, you stated in one of your remarks today that Lebanese expatriates have two options: either to vote from abroad in the six proposed electoral districts specifically designated for the diaspora, or, if they wish to vote for all 128 members of parliament, they must travel to Lebanon.

Mr. President, this matter is not yours to decide. It falls either to the Parliament’s, once you allow it to convene to discuss and approve the proposed amendments to the current electoral law, especially after the government officially announced, and personally informed you, that it cannot organize the parliamentary elections in the six proposed districts abroad.

Or, if you, as is the case now, prevent the Parliament from convening to discuss the proposed electoral law amendments, the responsibility then falls on the Government to take the appropriate decisions regarding how expatriates will vote, as it is the executive authority in the country and the body effectively overseeing the conduct of elections.
